Editing Friday 23rd March 2012

Today we managed to get nearly all our editing completed, we have now fully cropped and cut out any pieces of video clip we do not need, and we managed to add some effects and transitions. the first effect was something called 'Vignette' on the 'Final Cut Pro' software, this creates a much darker effect to the edges and almost looks as if you are peering through a key hole, i think it works well when the girl is coming down the stairs as she is constantly getting closer and closer to the camera and with the effect the colour change makes everything look much more 'gritty' and in a way more dangerous.

We also added a few transitions to the opening thriller sequence, we added a sudden cut and a fade in, the fade in was used to show the audience that time has passed and that the scene is in a different location now. the sudden cut however we used as it is much more dramatic and thrilling, this is also the part where she just got grabbed, so the sudden cut makes the audience ask the question 'Where has she gone and what happened to her?'.

Thirdly, we added a colour scheme effect to the end scene because when the camera follows the feet of the kidnapper/ murderer the carpet is shown as well, it is an orange colour and we felt as if it ruined the immersion as it just doesn't belong, so we used the effect 'Colour Scheme' and managed to make the scene look much more dull and grimy than what it originally was.

Shows that we have added two effects to this
clip, Desaturate which basically makes colours much darker and
Vignette which adds a circle of darkness around the outer edges of the screen.
Now the scene should fit with other thriller films rather than having a bright orange carpet because orange signifies
Harmony and intelligence which we do not want being portrayed.

We also 'Desaturated' the victim's bedroom because although we wanted codes and conventions of a typical girls room, the pink was actually extremely vibrant and powerful also typical thriller conventions did not match the bright pink colours.

Last of all using and electronic keyboard and 'Logic Pro9' our group managed to import a piece of
droning noise that we fitted nicely after the bang from downstairs. Drones are often used to convey to the audience that something important is about to happen, it also is used when the pace of editing begins to get faster just before a important scene. For example, a action film just before the protagonists is captured a the enemy a drone may fade in showing the importance of a scene  We added to other things using this 'Logic Pro9' software the first was a female scream which we had to edit in, mainly because we just couldn't get the right quality from our actresses scream during the scene outside. And last of all we added a very  faint heart beat that you can hear if you are listening closely, the heart beat was used to excite the audience because when there is music or sound that is faster than our heart is means that we are more likley to get excited and thrilled over it, ready for the important scene.
