Today in class we watched the title sequence of 'Memento', the main features we were focussing on were the lighting, sound, mise- en- scene, editing and the camera angles and shots. first of all there was the close up shots of the photograph, the shot shows that the photo is of significance and importance. the other close up was of the killer, with this technique the character is shown to be perhaps the main character of the film (protagonist) Thirdly the editing of the text, the texts font is a serif font meaning that the film is portrayed as being quite serious and formal. the text is also blue which is often symbolised as being calm and depressive. This is then linked with the non - diegetic sound of the orchestral, slow paced music, the music seems calm and sad which links with the text style of the film. there are also uses of low and high angle shots. firstly the low angle shot is of the killer, it makes the character seem important and dominant this links with his clothing too which is a suit making him look much more serious and formal. the high angle shot is of the victim, it makes the character seem insignificant and weak there is also the lighting, the lighting in this title sequence is made to look natural by making the light source seem as though its through a window, this could connect with the audience as this is verisimilitude. Lastly in one of the scenes there is use of underlighting and keylighting on the characters face to distort his expressions, and to create shadows over parts of his face.
After the analysing of the title sequence we focussed on updating our mood board, My group (Stephen & Dale) will include screen shots of different themes and styles including the mise- en-scene, lighting, and camera angles. Our mood board already consists of possible locations of where we may film the scenes, props such as the knife and clothing of the killer, and shots such as low angle shots to make the character seem much more threatening and powerful.
