My group and I have discussed many different thriller title sequences and what creates them and what creates the atmosphere, focusing mainly on sound, mise- en- scene, lighting and the codes and conventions. These features also branch off into areas like the non- diegetic sound and the eerie orchestral music which creates much more suspense. another example is the lighting, a lot of the lighting is quite hard and thrillers are well known to use under lighting on faces to distort them, common thrillers also use chiaroscuro which makes the shadows seem much more deeper. Such as this image here
Use of chiaroscuro
